Controls Engineer, Virtualized PLCs
Engineer virtualized PLC platform for data center controls, porting industrial control logic to software-defined infrastructure while preserving determinism, safety, and real-time performance. Requires professional PLC programming experience and knowledge of virtualization for controls.
About the job
Role Scope
- Engineer the virtualized PLC platform: control logic moving from proprietary boxes to software-defined infrastructure.
- Port and validate control applications onto virtual runtimes without giving up determinism or safety.
- Build the test harnesses that prove virtual controls against hardware behavior before a site sees them.
- Define the reference architecture: networking, redundancy, and failover for controls as software.
Requirements
- Programmed industrial controls professionally: PLC platforms and IEC 61131 languages.
- Worked with virtualization or software-based control runtimes.
- Test control logic like lives depend on it, because they can.
- Understand determinism, scan times, and what breaks when controls become software.
- Document control narratives engineers and operators both use.
Nice-to-Haves
- Codesys or software PLCs.
- Hypervisors and real-time Linux.
- BMS and EPMS applications.
- Functional safety.
