Perception & Fusion Engineer

Develops real-time perception, sensor-control, and fusion software for heterogeneous autonomous vehicle platforms, integrating ML algorithms across sensors and embedded systems. Requires advanced engineering education or 5+ years of relevant experience, multi-modal sensing expertise, Linux/Docker proficiency, and U.S. security-clearance eligibility.

About the job

Responsibilities

  • Develop, integrate, and adapt AI/ML algorithms for perception autonomy stacks across heterogeneous autonomous vehicle platforms.
  • Create software interfaces to autonomously control EO, IR, acoustics, radar, and RF sensors.
  • Collaborate with sensor, tracking, and autonomy teams to deploy platform swarms during on-site DoD testing and demonstrations.
  • Deploy containerized solutions to embedded Linux devices using computer-in-the-loop testing, profiling, and performance-data collection.
  • Work with DoD customers to understand use cases and requirements, triage technical needs, and support field events.
  • Triage technical problems, scope work, and communicate and document progress for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Develop simulation tooling to replay sensor, platform, and autonomy data for post-processing field-test analysis.
  • Implement improvements for future integration efforts based on simulation results and customer feedback.
  • Travel approximately 10–20% for software/hardware integration and demonstrations, typically every 1–2 months for 2–5 days.

Requirements

  • MS or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Robotics Engineering, Computer Science, Optimization, or equivalent, or 5+ years of relevant experience with sensor algorithms, hardware, and HIL software integration.
  • Experience with multiple sensor modalities, such as EO, IR, lidar, radar, sonar, and acoustics.
  • Understanding of sensor physics and sensor control parameters.
  • Experience training and deploying ML algorithms onto integrated systems.
  • Experience with estimation, tracking, and sensor-fusion algorithms.
  • Comfortable working in Linux and Docker.
  • Experience with remote software development and processing large datasets.
  • Ability to learn new software and algorithms with limited supervision.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen and hold or be eligible to obtain and maintain a U.S. security clearance.

Nice to Have

  • Modern C++ development, including C++11, C++17, C++20, and smart pointers.
  • CMake, Python, and Bash.
  • PhD in Computer Science or Electrical Engineering with an AI/ML focus.
  • Experience with robotic swarm or multi-agent systems and optimization.
  • Strong tracking and sensor-fusion background.
  • Current U.S. Secret security clearance.

Compensation

  • Base salary: $200,000–$275,000 annually.
  • Eligible compensation may also include equity, comprehensive health, dental, vision, life and disability insurance, 401(k) matching, learning and wellness stipends, and paid time off.
