Controls Engineer, Demand Management

Build and deploy demand management control strategies that flex gigawatts of data center load in response to grid signals and prices while coordinating IT, cooling, and generation assets without violating SLAs. Requires prior experience engineering controls for energy systems such as demand response or microgrids, power systems knowledge, utility/market integration, and simulation-first validation.

About the job

Responsibilities

  • Engineer demand management controls: the logic that flexes gigawatts of load against grid signals and price.
  • Build control strategies coordinating IT load, cooling, and behind-the-meter generation without touching an SLA.
  • Integrate with markets and utilities: signals in, verified response out, settlement-grade data behind it.
  • Prove strategies in simulation, then deploy them across the fleet.

Requirements

  • Engineered controls for energy systems: demand response, microgrids, or industrial load management.
  • Built control logic that acted on real load and kept its constraints.
  • Understand power systems enough to know what not to automate.
  • Integrated with utility or market signals.
  • Validate in simulation before the field, every time.

Nice-to-Haves

  • Data center power and cooling.
  • BESS controls.
  • ISO and RTO market mechanics.
  • Optimization methods.
