Responsibilities
Own day-to-day management of the underwriting team, driving productivity, accuracy, service quality, and guideline adherence.
Partner cross-functionally with Sales, Processing, and Closing teams.
Evaluate applicant information against underwriting criteria to flag high-risk cases, confirm application completeness, and make investment recommendations.
Serve as the first point of contact for eligibility escalations.
Advise the team on investment decisions for edge cases and escalations in line with Hometap’s risk threshold.
Identify and mitigate underwriting risks, including monitoring quality-control error trends and emerging risk patterns.
Coach and develop underwriters to drive high performance in pipeline management, communication, and quality.
Ensure team members adhere to investor guidelines and company procedures.
Participate in recruiting, career development, and succession planning for the team.
Propose actionable plans and adapt underwriting processes as circumstances change.
Requirements
5+ years of underwriting experience in residential finance.
2+ years of experience managing a production-based team.
Extraordinary attention to detail, including strong proofreading and fact-checking skills.
Strong critical-thinking and decision-making skills, particularly in nuanced situations.
Comfort working with legal and compliance leaders to escalate potential issues.
Ability to multitask and work under pressure in a deadline-driven environment.
Experience managing, motivating, and developing a team.
Proactive approach to daily work, with the ability to manage multiple responsibilities.
Clear, effective communication skills and the ability to work well across Sales, Processing, and Closing.
Strong client-service skills.
Bachelor’s degree, ideally in business, finance, or a related field.
Compensation and Benefits
Salary range: $110,000–$125,000, depending on experience, skills, location, and other factors.
