Director, People at Deepgram will lead the HRBP and People Ops teams, own execution of the full people roadmap, and drive performance, talent development, compliance, and employee experience in a fast-scaling, AI-first organization. Requires 8-12 years broad HR experience, strong team leadership, strategic execution skills, and active use of AI tools.

About the role

What You'll Own

  • Team leadership — directly managing the People Ops Manager and HRBP team. Run 1:1s, set priorities, give feedback, develop capabilities, and hold the bar.
  • Execution of the people roadmap — scope the work, sequence it, assign it, and ensure delivery.
  • HRBP function quality — coach on complex employee situations, review work, ensure true business partnership.
  • People Ops function oversight — partner with the People Ops Manager to ensure HRIS, lifecycle, compliance, and benefits run cleanly and improve.
  • Performance management — own execution of performance cycles, calibration, and coaching infrastructure.
  • Employee experience — ensure positive experiences across onboarding, development, and offboarding.
  • Talent development — drive programs for manager training, career frameworks, development programming, and growth tools.
  • Compliance and policy — stay ahead of employment law, policy gaps, risk; support due diligence and M&As.
  • Senior escalation point — handle complex employee relations and sensitive conversations with judgment.
  • Cross-functional presence — represent People function in operational threads; credible partner to ELT and leaders.
  • AI-native execution — actively use AI tools in work and drive adoption across team and company.

What We're Looking For

  • 8–12 years in People/HR, with direct experience managing HRBPs or People partners.
  • Broad functional depth across performance, comp, compliance, employee experience, and talent development.
  • Strong operator and team developer who energizes from making a team perform.
  • Proven ability to take strategic direction and drive execution through others.
  • Strategic thinker who operates in the details and brings own point of view.
  • Good judgment on escalations.
  • Active AI tool user (must describe tools used and what built with them).
  • Direct communicator who represents the People function credibly with managers and ELT.
