Staff Process Development Engineer, Etch

Leads hands-on development and optimization of semiconductor etch and thin-film fabrication processes, designing experiments, operating cleanroom tools, and troubleshooting recipes and equipment. Requires a PhD and 10 years of nanofabrication experience or equivalent expertise.

Responsibilities

  • Design and run semiconductor etching and thin-film fabrication experiments in the lab.
  • Review academic papers and technical literature to inform experimental design.
  • Learn and operate semiconductor tools, including etch, deposition, lithography, and metrology systems.
  • Develop, transfer, and optimize process recipes across platforms, focusing on consistency, yield, and throughput.
  • Analyze process data, troubleshoot recipe and equipment issues, and document findings and results.

Requirements

  • PhD and 10 years of experience, or equivalent, developing nanofabrication processes, device flows, and mentoring technical teams.
  • Experience operating dry etch, thin-film deposition, and lithography tools.
  • Hands-on cleanroom experience with multi-step fabrication flows.
  • Experience developing and optimizing recipes for dry etch, thin-film deposition, or lithography.
  • Familiarity with metrology techniques and tools such as ellipsometry, profilometry, and SEM.

Nice-to-haves

  • Mechanical or maintenance experience with fab tools.
  • Full device-flow experience.
