Staff Engineer, System Reliability
Own reliability modeling and failure-prediction strategy for the V-BAT unmanned aircraft system, using field and test data to guide design, production, testing, and sustainment decisions. Requires a bachelor’s degree and 5+ years of reliability engineering experience, with expertise in FTA, FMECA, and MTBF.
About the job
Responsibilities
- Build and maintain the V-BAT unmanned aircraft system reliability model using field and industry failure-rate data.
- Create and maintain system fault trees, identify single points of failure, and quantify their contribution to system reliability.
- Provide Design-for-Reliability guidance and inform design decisions that improve system reliability.
- Partner with Design, Fleet Support, Quality, and Manufacturing Engineering on field-failure root cause investigations and corrective and preventive actions.
- Drive reliability test campaigns in production and sustainment, feeding results back into reliability predictions.
- Lead production reliability screening campaigns, including HASS and ESS, to reduce infant-mortality failures.
- Establish and track MTBF, failure-rate, and reliability-growth metrics; communicate reliability status and risk to program leadership.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, mathematics, or statistics.
- 5+ years of reliability or surety engineering experience in a high-consequence industry such as defense, aerospace, automotive, or medical devices.
- Expertise in Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), Failure Modes, Effects, and Criticality Analysis (FMECA), and MTBF calculations.
- Experience building reliability models from field and test data and translating them into design and production decisions.
Nice-to-haves
- Reliability, Availability, and Maintainability (RAM) modeling and Weibull analysis.
- Reliability analysis software such as Relyence, ReliaSoft, Weibull++, or Windchill Risk & Reliability.
- Familiarity with MIL-HDBK-217, 217Plus, and MIL-STD-756.
- Experience implementing FRACAS and supporting Failure Review Boards.
- ASQ Certified Reliability Engineer (CRE) certification.
- Experience with unmanned aircraft, aerospace, or other mission-critical hardware systems.
