U.S. Public Policy and AI Innovation Intern

Supports U.S. technology policy advocacy while building AI-driven prototypes, prompts, and internal interfaces to improve policy workflows. The internship requires a relevant bachelor’s or master’s degree in progress, strong research and communication skills, and hands-on AI tool development experience.

Responsibilities

Policy Operations and Advocacy

  • Maintain internal policy knowledge bases and issue trackers.
  • Monitor and evaluate U.S. federal, state, and local legislation for its impact on company products.
  • Provide timely updates on policy shifts.
  • Draft talking points, policy messaging, and presentation materials for external events, blog posts, and consultation responses.
  • Collaborate with Legal, Trust & Safety, Public Sector Sales, and other internal teams on regulatory inquiries and high-stakes policy issues.
  • Analyze new or proposed Internet- and company-impacting regulations or legislation to guide advocacy and operational responses.

AI Innovation and Tooling

  • Design AI-driven prototypes and develop and refine specialized prompts and internal AI interfaces to streamline policy team workflows and processes.
  • Leverage internal AI tools to synthesize public policy data into actionable insights.
  • Support the development of best practices for the responsible use of AI within policy and legal functions.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a bachelor's or master's degree focused on technology, engineering, public policy, law, or a related field.
  • Available for a full-time, 12-week internship in the Washington, D.C. office during the fall, working in-office 3–5 days per week.
  • Demonstrated interest in Internet and technology policy, cybersecurity, privacy, and artificial intelligence.
  • Experience building and deploying AI tools and applications using modern developer workflows, including AI-augmented coding or natural language programming.
  • Strong research, writing, and analytical skills, with the ability to distill legislative and regulatory texts into clear, business-friendly advice.
  • Self-starter mentality and comfort navigating ambiguity and initiating projects.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to articulate complex technology and policy concepts to cross-functional and public audiences.
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English.

Nice-to-Haves

  • Experience teaching AI tooling or adoption to non-technical users.
  • Experience in government, a public policy organization, trade association, or technology company, including internships, clinical work, or research.
  • Familiarity with cloud computing infrastructure and how the Internet works.

Compensation

  • Washington, D.C.-based hires: estimated hourly rate of $24 per hour.
  • Compensation may be adjusted depending on work location.
