Senior Industrial Designer
The Senior Industrial Designer leads multidisciplinary product-design projects from research and concept development through prototyping and manufacturing collaboration. The role requires strong visualization, CAD, rendering, storytelling, communication, and knowledge of manufacturing processes.

Responsibilities
- Create product designs and experiences with meaningful impact.
- Generate ideas quickly with limited parameters.
- Lead clients and teams through the industrial design phase of projects.
- Strengthen IDEO's industrial design perspective across diverse projects, including product interaction, software tools and applications, and the web.
- Create tangible design expressions and communicate the essence of design ideas.
- Collaborate with design researchers, communication designers, business designers, and interaction designers.
- Participate in user research, brainstorming, concept development, prototyping, work with engineers and manufacturers, and design stewardship.
- Conduct field activities to build empathy with users.
- Work across disciplines and contribute to a culture of learning and teaching.
Requirements
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes and experience working closely with engineers.
- Experience delivering engineering drawings and specifying CMF (colors, materials, and finishes).
- Excellent storytelling and narrative skills, especially regarding industrial design craft.
- Outstanding communication, presentation, and design-team collaboration skills.
- Strong visualization skills, including quick concept sketching, presentation sketching, 3D CAD modeling, and rendering.
- Experience with CAD software such as SolidWorks, Rhino, or Fusion 360, or similar programs.
- Experience with rendering tools such as KeyShot, Cinema 4D, or similar programs.
- Resume, cover letter, portfolio, and response to the design-question prompt are required.
- Portfolio must include at least four work-related projects and explain the development process.
Nice-to-Haves
- Experience using Adobe Creative Suite.
- Experience using Grasshopper for Rhino or an equivalent tool.
- Two or three personal projects included in the portfolio.
