Senior Backend Engineer

Responsibilities

• Own and ship backend product features that power AI-driven user experiences at scale, including agent interactions, intelligent workflows, and context-aware capabilities.
• Build reliable, observable services tightly integrated with the product surface.
• Partner with AI engineers, product managers, and designers to translate vision into production-ready backend implementations.
• Design and implement backend APIs, services, and data flows for user-facing AI features.
• Own features end-to-end: technical design, implementation, testing, rollout, and monitoring.
• Build backend logic for agent-driven experiences: context retrieval, action execution, conversation management, and intelligent routing.
• Scope, estimate, and deliver features in collaboration with product and design.
• Drive reliability through observability, incident response, performance tuning, and safe rollouts.
• Identify bottlenecks and propose backend solutions to improve user experience.
• Contribute to architecture decisions balancing velocity and maintainability.

Requirements

• 5+ years of backend engineering experience building and shipping user-facing product features at scale.
• Strong fundamentals in API design, service architecture, data modeling, and performance optimization.
• Experience working with or in support of AI/ML systems in production (model integration, inference pipelines, or agent-driven features).
• Product-minded approach focused on user experience.
• Comfort in ambiguous, fast-moving AI environments.
• Ability to break down product requirements into technical implementations and ship iteratively.
• AI-native mindset with excitement for agents, LLMs, and useful product experiences.

Nice-to-Haves

• Experience building backend for agent-based or AI-powered products.
• Familiarity with LLM patterns: RAG, function calling, tool use, prompt routing, context management.
• Experience with event-driven or asynchronous architectures.
• Proficiency in TypeScript/Node.js, Python, or Go.
• Background in SaaS, productivity, or developer platforms.
• Familiarity with vector databases, model gateways, inference optimization, orchestration frameworks.
• Experience at a startup or high-growth company shipping product quickly.
