Senior Backend Engineer, Safety

Builds and ships backend products and maintainable APIs for Reddit’s Safety and Moderation organization. The role requires 5–8 years of software development experience, proficiency in a general-purpose programming language, API expertise, and the ability to lead and mentor engineers.

Responsibilities

  • Work cross-functionally with product, design, and engineering counterparts to execute product and business strategy and build new products and features.
  • Contribute to the full development cycle, including technical design, development, testing, experimentation, analysis, and launch.
  • Review code and design documents and provide feedback on product specifications and mocks.
  • Lead a team of engineers, establish standards that improve developer workflows, recommend best practices, and coach and mentor engineers.
  • Continuously improve technical and non-technical abilities.

Requirements

  • 5–8 years of software development experience in one or more general-purpose programming languages, including Go, Python, Rust, or Ruby.
  • Experience with GraphQL, REST, HTTP, Thrift, or gRPC basics, and the ability to design and implement maintainable APIs.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, a similar technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks and keep projects on schedule.
  • Self-directed, innovative, action-oriented approach in fast-paced and ambiguous environments.
  • Experience partnering effectively with cross-functional teams in a fully remote environment.
  • Ability to communicate complex topics with technical and non-technical audiences.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Base salary range: $190,800–$267,100 USD.
