Senior Backend Engineer, Compliance Engineering

Responsibilities

• Adapt Reddit’s platforms to an evolving privacy, security, and regulatory landscape.
• Partner with product, design, and engineering teams to build trusted, compliant experiences for millions of users.
• Influence technical and product strategy in a new product space.
• Own product areas end-to-end, including technical design, coding, testing, experimentation, analysis, and launch.
• Lead high-impact, cross-functional initiatives critical to Reddit’s business and platform integrity.
• Improve engineering workflows, set standards, and mentor engineers.

Requirements

• 5+ years of backend development experience across multiple parts of the backend stack, including databases, networking, and efficient computing.
• Experience with Go, Python, Postgres, Redis, Thrift, GraphQL, Docker, Kubernetes, and AWS.
• Experience as a tech lead on projects and teams with 3+ backend engineers.
• Ability to design and implement complex distributed systems operating under high load.
• Self-directed, innovative, action-oriented, and comfortable working in ambiguous, fast-paced environments.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively in fully remote environments with technical and non-technical audiences.

• Experience mentoring engineers, owning team processes, and leading cross-functional projects.

Compensation and Benefits

• Base salary range: $190,800–$267,100 USD.
