Software Engineer - Openflow

Responsibilities

• Design and implement features in Openflow’s control plane and data plane for reliable, scalable, and secure real-time, bi-directional data movement.
• Contribute to distributed systems supporting batch and streaming workloads, including structured and multi-modal unstructured data.
• Deliver small projects end to end, from requirements clarification and technical design through implementation, testing, rollout, and follow-up improvements.
• Contribute to medium-sized projects with guidance and support from senior engineers.
• Operate and support built components through monitoring, on-call participation, incident response, post-incident reviews, and reliability improvements.
• Apply engineering practices including clean code, robust testing, observability, security, and documentation.
• Collaborate with engineering, product, and design partners to clarify requirements, create technical plans, break work into milestones, and communicate progress and risks.
• Analyze and improve performance, scalability, and reliability using metrics, profiling, and experimentation.
• Participate in code reviews, design discussions, knowledge sharing, intern mentoring, and onboarding newer engineers.
• Contribute to shared platform tooling and patterns for building, deploying, and operating connectors and runtimes.

Requirements

• 2+ years of industry experience building and operating backend or platform services, including hands-on distributed-systems experience.
• Strong computer science fundamentals, including algorithms, data structures, and systems design.
• Practical understanding of concurrency, replication, partitioning, streaming, and fault tolerance.
• Understanding of operating systems and networking, including multithreading, memory management, storage, and performance debugging.
• Proficiency in Java or a similar object-oriented language such as Scala, Go, or C++.
• Experience working in large, shared codebases.
• Experience building cloud-native services on at least one major cloud provider using containers, CI/CD, and modern monitoring and logging stacks.
• Track record of delivering maintainable solutions to non-trivial engineering problems.
• Strong collaboration and communication skills, including explaining technical trade-offs.
• BS in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

Nice to Have

• Experience with data integration, observability, or streaming and flow technologies such as Apache NiFi, Kafka, Flink, or Airflow.
• Experience with analytics or data platforms.

Compensation

• Salary range: $160,000–$230,000 annually.
