Responsibilities
- Provide technical leadership for a platform enabling safe, reliable, and automated deployments.
- Set technical direction across multiple work streams and drive multi-year architecture decisions.
- Shape multi-quarter roadmaps with engineering management and leadership.
- Lead cross-team design reviews, RFCs, and incident retrospectives related to deployment safety.
- Review designs, pair on complex problems, mentor engineers, and elevate technical standards without direct people management.
- Define platform capabilities and make tradeoffs for safety, speed, and scalability.
- Build toward automated, health-mediated deployments at hundreds of thousands of releases per day.
- Help consolidate release orchestration, health mediation, feature flagging, and configuration rollback into a unified platform.
- Determine appropriate applications of AI within deployment infrastructure and operations.
- Collaborate with internal customers to translate workflows into platform capabilities.
- Participate in on-call support outside standard working hours as needed.
Requirements
- 8+ years of hands-on software engineering experience.
- Experience owning the architecture of complex, distributed, production-critical systems end to end.
- Demonstrated technical leadership through RFCs, design reviews, architecture, mentorship, or platform APIs and contracts.
- Strong judgment in ambiguous environments, including defining problems and roadmaps.
- Deep experience with production-system safety, observability, and automation, including rollback paths, health signals, and guardrails.
- Experience influencing technical direction across team boundaries without direct authority.
- Fluency with AI-assisted development and the ability to critically evaluate AI-generated output in safety-critical systems.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Nice-to-haves
- Experience with workflow orchestration, long-running or durable execution, or large-scale distributed systems.
- Experience owning a deployment, progressive delivery, or change-management platform at scale.
- Experience leading technical migrations across many independent teams.
