Senior Software Engineer: Platform
Build and evolve Flexport’s internal developer platform, CI/CD systems, build tooling, service communication, IAM, orchestration, and observability capabilities. The role requires 5+ years of software engineering experience, strong full-stack instincts, and a product mindset for improving developer experience.

Responsibilities
- Own and evolve the developer platform that powers engineering.
- Build paved paths and self-service tooling that make the right thing easy.
- Create and support CI/CD pipelines using BuildKit and GitHub Actions.
- Maintain build tooling including Gradle, Bazel, npm, pnpm, Bun, Go, and Cargo.
- Manage artifact repositories such as Artifactory, Amazon ECR, and GitHub.
- Improve backend and frontend developer experience.
- Steward the GraphQL and gRPC ecosystem, including middleware, federation, schema sharing, CLIs, code generation, and servers and clients.
- Evolve and integrate identity and access management solutions and primitives.
- Improve usability of container orchestration and observability systems used to run, understand, and debug services.
Requirements
- 5+ years of software engineering experience, including experience building developer platforms or internal tooling used by other engineers.
- Strong full-stack capabilities across backend services, frontend build pipelines, Kubernetes manifests, and CI configuration.
- Product-oriented approach to internal users, with the ability to identify valuable improvements and measure outcomes.
- Hands-on experience with several of the following: CI/CD systems, container orchestration, multi-language build tooling, backend-for-frontend systems, service-to-service communication, metrics, and artifact storage.
- Ability to resolve technical debt and execute or simplify migrations.
- Independent, proactive approach to ambiguous problems.
- Excellent communication skills, including conducting developer interviews and writing design documents.
- Collaborative, helpful approach focused on unblocking engineers and improving productivity.
Nice to Have
- Experience using DORA metrics for data-driven developer experience improvements.
- Experience with AWS.
- Experience with identity and access management at scale, including JWTs, OIDC, and fine-grained authorization.
- Experience with Terraform.

- Work from the office three times per week.
