Senior Cloud Infrastructure Engineer

The Senior Cloud Infrastructure Engineer will design and operate secure cloud, on-premise, and air-gapped infrastructure for UK defence customers. The role requires 5+ years of production infrastructure experience, cloud and IaC expertise, Kubernetes and containerization skills, and eligibility for UK Security Clearance.

Responsibilities

Lead the design, development, and architecture of UK-hosted infrastructure used across internal development teams.
Build and deploy products into cloud, on-premise, and air-gapped environments using infrastructure as code, and support them throughout their operational life.
Host UK-securely-approved AI models for secure programmes.
Improve developer effectiveness by identifying friction and building tooling to remove it.
Own CI/CD systems and deployment strategies, including Hardware in the Loop (HiL) integration.
Debug and profile edge cases in distributed systems and lead incident response.
Work with product managers and customers to understand requirements and translate them into technical solutions.
Contribute solutions to the wider organisation.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related engineering field.
5+ years of hands-on experience building and deploying infrastructure for a production software product.
Deep experience with at least one major cloud provider: AWS, Azure, or GCP.
Strong experience designing and building infrastructure with infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform.
Expertise with Kubernetes, Docker, and containerized systems, including microservice-based applications.
Confidence with scripting languages such as Python or Bash.
Experience with Linux-based operating systems such as Ubuntu or RHEL.
Ability to take initiative in a fast-paced environment and improve system documentation.
Ability to hold UK Security Clearance; current or previous clearance is preferred.

Nice to Have

7+ years of experience across infrastructure, platform, or DevOps roles.
Experience deploying Kubernetes on bare metal or in air-gapped and classified networks.
Familiarity with security and regulatory controls, vulnerability patching, base OS images, networking, and IAM.
Experience with Bazel, Nix, or similar technologies.
Experience serving ML models in production or building data and real-time analysis pipelines.
Experience on national-security projects for government agencies.
Experience in autonomy, robotics, or simulation products.

Compensation and Benefits

Full-time, primarily in-office role with an expectation of working from the Applied Intuition office five days per week.
General willingness to travel between company offices and to customer sites.
