Backend Engineer
Build and own high-throughput ingestion infrastructure processing billions of events for PostHog’s analytics and platform products. The role requires experience with scalable distributed systems, multi-tenant SaaS, and technologies such as Node.js, Rust, Go, Kafka, PostgreSQL, and Redis.

Responsibilities
- Develop infrastructure to capture, process, and reliably deliver billions of events per month to product analytics, feature flags, CDP, and other platform components.
- Own the ingestion pipeline service end to end.
- Build open-source software for high-throughput data processing.
- Design distributed systems that handle terabytes of data efficiently and reliably.
- Ship small, confident, frequent changes without breaking systems.
Requirements
- Experience with highly scalable, event-driven distributed systems.
- Experience developing multi-tenant software-as-a-service products.
- Experience with Node.js, Go, Rust, or similar languages.
- Experience working with Kafka and PostgreSQL, Redis, or similar systems at scale.
- Ability to ship changes quickly without compromising reliability.
Nice to Have
- Experience with customer data platforms or similar data analytics systems.
- Experience responding to incidents and carrying a pager.
- Experience provisioning and maintaining cloud infrastructure.
- Experience with benchmarking and profiling tools.
- Knowledge of observability systems and practices.
