Speech Technology Research Intern

Conduct speech technology research on text-to-speech, ASR, speech-to-speech, and speech analysis models during a six-month project. The role requires a relevant master's qualification or PhD study, neural-network development experience, and Python skills.

Responsibilities

  • Work with the speech technology teams on a 6-month research project.
  • Investigate text-to-speech models.
  • Research the state of the art in text-to-speech, automatic speech recognition, speech-to-speech models, or speech analysis.
  • Develop models using PyTorch, TensorFlow, and Python.
  • Collect and collate training databases.
  • Test custom models and record experiment outputs.
  • Assist the technical team with productization.
  • Receive mentoring from experienced researchers.
  • Support other research projects across the speech teams as required.

Requirements

  • Master's qualification in Speech Technology or a related field such as Artificial Intelligence, Computer Science, or Mathematics, or current PhD study in a related field.
  • Experience building and training neural network models.
  • Experience with Python programming.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience programming in C, C++, or Go.
  • Experience working in speech technology.

Compensation and benefits

  • Total salary of £13,500 for the 6-month project, calculated at a £27,000 annual rate.
  • In-person mentoring and support from experienced researchers.
  • Experience building AI models in a commercial environment.
