Resident Mechanical Engineer, Modular R&D

This role owns cooling, piping, and airflow systems for modular data center products from released drawings through rate production. The engineer works hands-on on the Phoenix manufacturing floor, leading first-article reviews, pressure tests, nonconformance disposition, and controlled design revisions.

About the job

Responsibilities

  • Own the mechanical systems of the modular product—cooling, piping, and airflow—from released drawings through rate production.
  • Work on the Phoenix manufacturing floor daily to identify piping and assembly issues at the station where they occur and disposition them immediately.
  • Run first-article reviews, fit checks, and pressure tests in person as units come down the line.
  • Answer mechanical RFIs from the floor and engineer fixes into controlled drawing revisions rather than leaving one-off deviations.
  • Feed production learnings back into drawings, tolerances, and the BOM so issues do not recur.
  • Support modular data center designs from released drawings through first article and rate production.
  • Engineer cooling, piping, and airflow systems that build cleanly at the station, pass pressure tests, and perform reliably in the field.

Requirements

  • Hands-on experience engineering mechanical systems for complex physical products or modular construction.
  • Experience working on a shop floor or production line and dispositioning nonconformances in real time.
  • Experience supporting production launches of personally designed products through rate production.
  • Ability to create drawings that build cleanly and resolve fabrication issues through drawing updates.
  • Experience running first-article builds and pressure tests and tracing failures to drawings or processes.
  • Ability to iterate quickly while maintaining configuration control and ensuring the line builds from the correct revision.

Nice-to-haves

  • Liquid cooling experience.
  • Piping and pressure-testing experience.
  • Sheet metal design.
  • Strong design-for-manufacturing instincts.

Compensation

  • Salary range: $169,000–$208,000.
