About the role
Responsibilities
Lead a Collective (group of multi-disciplinary teams) as a player-coach, managing 2+ direct reports.
Coach team members in design strategy, continuous discovery, world-class UI design, strategic user-centered research, and usability testing.
Own and drive the team’s design roadmap, aligning to product area goals and shaping near-term priorities.
Drive the design vision and strategy for your Collective in collaboration with Product, Engineering, and Research.
Contribute to long-term vision (6+ months) for the Collective.
Resolve team-level tradeoffs across scope, speed, and quality; anticipate and mitigate delivery risks.
Hold team members accountable for delivery quality and address performance gaps.
Identify and address team health risks such as burnout, unclear ownership, and misalignment.
Maintain trust under delivery pressure by surfacing and resolving disagreements early.
Influence cross-functional partners on scope, priorities, and tradeoffs.
Proactively manage dependencies and sequencing.
Lead small cross-team efforts with defined scope.
Improve team-level processes for clearer requirements, better prioritization, and stronger communication.
Coach designers across multiple Collectives.
Contribute as an individual designer to learn processes and roadmap.
Requirements
3+ years of people management experience for Product Design teams or organizations (must include experience with a consumer product).
8+ years of relevant consumer, mobile app design experience.
Player-coach leadership experience.
Exceptional eye for detail and aesthetics; shipped mobile app work must be high quality.
Experience with Figma.
Experience coaching designers on integrating research into their practice.
Experience partnering with animators and illustrators.
Technical acumen and experience designing for complex problems and tools.
Ability to self-direct and prioritize effectively in a fast-paced startup environment.
Risk-taker, endlessly curious, expert collaborator, radically scrappy, and team-player.
