About the role
Key Responsibilities
Serve as embedded counsel for product and engineering, reviewing features, flows, and launches at the pace we ship.
Advise on the hard questions in generative AI and synthetic media: right of publicity, IP and copyright, content moderation, and provenance and disclosure.
Own consumer-facing legal surfaces like our Terms of Service, privacy policy, in-product disclosures and consents, and app store compliance.
Counsel marketing and growth on claims, endorsements, and promotions.
Build lightweight legal processes, such as launch reviews and escalation paths, that enable speed rather than slow it down.
Triage incoming legal matters across the company and manage with relevant stakeholders, including outside counsel when necessary.
Requirements
5+ years of legal experience, including substantial product counsel work at a consumer technology company (in-house, or firm plus in-house).
J.D. and active membership in good standing in at least one state bar with an ability to practice in-house in New York.
Fluency in the legal landscape of consumer software: privacy (GDPR, CCPA, COPPA), IP, UGC and content issues, and consumer protection.
Practical, business-first judgment. You give clear, concise answers and workable paths forward, not memos.
Comfortable operating as the only lawyer in the room, with the curiosity to stretch into the unknown.
Nice-to-Haves
Experience with generative AI, synthetic media, or similar technologies.
You've managed outside counsel relationships and legal spend.
You've been an early legal hire at a startup, or have been looking for that experience.
