About the role

Responsibilities

  • Counsel the Product team on launching new Motive Card features.
  • Negotiate contracts, including customer NDAs, issuer processor agreements, and receivables financing agreements.
  • Support Sales with training and processes to streamline and accelerate the sales cycle.
  • Review and help develop compelling, compliant marketing content.
  • Collaborate with Finance and Risk to minimize loss, investigate fraud, and create policies and processes to reduce it.
  • Work cross-functionally with legal peers in privacy, regulatory affairs, intellectual property, and general product counseling on novel issues.
  • Stay current on industry developments and advise colleagues on emerging risks and opportunities.
  • Build trust with business partners and serve as a trusted advisor to the Motive Card business.

Requirements

  • US-licensed and US-based attorney.
  • Minimum of 6+ years of experience.
  • Significant in-house experience, with law firm training.
  • Experience with emerging fintech products, especially commercial payments; crypto experience is not required.
  • Ability to translate US financial regulations into practical guidance for engineers and product managers.
  • Comfort making independent decisions amid regulatory and contractual ambiguity.
  • Willingness to take ownership and handle a broad range of work.
  • Commercial orientation with sound judgment about when to push back.
  • Humility, low ego, and commitment to empowering colleagues.
  • AI-first perspective and interest in building and leveraging AI-driven tools.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Compensation depends on location, education, work experience, and certifications.
  • San Francisco, California: $175,000–$241,000 USD.
  • Other US metropolitan areas and locations: $153,000–$210,000 USD.
  • Certain roles may include restricted stock units in total compensation.
  • Benefits may include health, pharmacy, optical and dental coverage, paid time off, sick time off, short- and long-term disability coverage, life insurance, and 401(k) contributions, subject to eligibility requirements.
