Staff Product Engineer , Certification

What You'll Do

• Own the architecture, scalability, and reliability of the certification platform (externally facing Experience Cloud portal, Salesforce data model, automation, and interfaces with broader Sales and Operations CRM).
• Own the quality and technical realization of the certification product experience for merchants and advertisers; bring engineering and user perspective to shape the roadmap in partnership with certification strategy owners.
• Take ownership of the instance and ongoing remediation: assess delivered work, close gaps, and establish a footing for confident operation and evolution.
• Work directly with merchants, advertisers, and internal Operations team to define scope, set priorities, translate business needs into technical design, and push back on short-term requests that harm long-term maintainability.
• Shape certification direction with Certification Innovation Manager, Director of Certification Strategy, Sales, and Revenue Operations; turn strategy into a technical roadmap you own and deliver.
• Establish and enforce Salesforce engineering governance: source-driven development, version control, CI/CD, release management across sandboxes, change-control, and environment strategy to prevent technical debt.
• Define architectural standards for declarative (Flow, configuration) vs. programmatic (Apex, Lightning Web Components) solutions for consistent platform building.
• Lead modernization efforts (e.g., evaluating Aura-based portal against Lightning Web Runtime) while maintaining operational continuity.
• Anticipate and resolve scaling constraints: governor limits, large data volumes, query/automation performance, external-user sharing model, Experience Cloud licensing.
• Own security and reliability for externally facing portal: authentication, registration, sharing/visibility model, monitoring, alerting, incident response.
• Design and own integrations with broader CRM, APIs, and third-party systems using clean interface contracts.
• Foster improvements to Certification Console and other internal Salesforce tools.
• Set standards for code/configuration quality, testing, documentation, and review; raise the bar for engineers and partners through clarity and example.
• Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

What You'll Bring

• Deep, hands-on Salesforce expertise across configuration and code: data modeling, security/sharing model, Flow, Apex, Lightning Web Components.
• Production experience building and operating Experience Cloud sites for external users, including license models, sharing, and performance considerations.
• Strong command of Salesforce platform limits and scaling techniques: governor limits, large data volume strategies, asynchronous processing, SOQL and automation optimization.
• Source-driven development and release management: Salesforce DX, Git, CI/CD, metadata deployment tooling (Gearset, Copado, or equivalent), sandbox/environment strategy.
• Integration design across REST/SOAP APIs, platform events, middleware patterns with emphasis on clean contracts.
• Demonstrated ability to inherit an unfamiliar or poorly maintained org and improve it materially, with strong troubleshooting and root cause analysis.
• Product mindset: own outcomes over tickets, shape what gets built, set priorities for external-facing product with strategy owners.
• Experience working directly with users and business stakeholders to define scope, validate direction, and create technical roadmaps.
• Ability to communicate technical concepts and tradeoffs clearly to non-technical stakeholders (certification, operations, legal, leadership).
• Proven ability to influence without direct authority and set standards that others follow.
• Comfort operating in change: take ownership of in-flight platform and establish durable engineering practices.
• Familiarity with current Salesforce platform direction, including move from Aura to Lightning Web Runtime.
• Relevant Salesforce certifications (e.g., Platform Developer I/II, Experience Cloud Consultant, Application/System Architect) are a plus.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of software engineering experience, with substantial time building on Salesforce using declarative and programmatic (Apex, Lightning Web Components) approaches, and time operating at senior or staff level.
• Demonstrated experience designing, delivering, and operating production Salesforce solutions at scale, including externally facing Experience Cloud sites.
• Experience owning the technical health of a Salesforce org.
