Senior Software Engineer - Quicksilver - Distributed Key Value
Build and operate Quicksilver, Cloudflare’s globally distributed key-value store, developing features in Go and C while improving performance, monitoring, reliability, and debugging across the full systems stack. The role requires distributed or systems programming experience, strong engineering judgment, and willingness to participate in on-call support.

Responsibilities
- Develop new features for Cloudflare’s globally distributed Quicksilver key-value store using Go.
- Review pull requests and contribute to robust, high-quality systems code.
- Improve system performance, including CPU and memory utilization.
- Improve monitoring and operational tools written in Go.
- Debug and investigate difficult, hard-to-reproduce problems across multiple layers of the software stack.
- Own and support the full stack, including code, unit and integration tests, deployment and rollback plans, operations, monitoring, alerting, debugging, and on-call support.
- Participate in incident response, including during nonstandard hours.
Requirements
- Experience writing robust systems with attention to code quality, performance, and technical debt.
- Experience with storage systems, peer-to-peer systems, large-scale distributed systems, or systems programming.
- Ability to investigate issues across multiple software-stack layers.
- Ability to work autonomously and design simple, pragmatic solutions to complex problems.
- Enjoyment of both low-level and high-level programming.
- Strong collaboration skills, including giving and receiving constructive design feedback.
Nice-to-haves
- Experience with C.
- Experience operating globally distributed systems across challenging network conditions, hardware failures, or kernel bugs.
Compensation and Benefits
- Denver-based hires: estimated annual salary of $168,000 ~ $210,000.
- Washington, D.C., New York, and Seattle-based hires: estimated annual salary of $185,000 ~ $231,000.
- Compensation may be adjusted depending on work location.
