Laboratory Scientist

Responsibilities

• Conducts translational human and animal research on pathogenesis and treatment of high consequence emerging viral infections (e.g., Ebola, Nipah virus).
• Analyze experimental data and interpret results to write reports and summaries of findings.
• Coordinate the work of biological technicians and technologists and other scientists.
• Develops and maintains proficiency working safely and effectively in a biosafety level four laboratory environment.
• Provides technical experience needed to assist in studying the basic principles of plant and animal life.
• Assists with performing basic laboratory experiments and procedures.
• Prepares, organizes and maintains various lab samples, supplies, and equipment.
• Establishes and maintains accurate reliable sample inventory.
• Learns new laboratory techniques and procedures.
• Implements existing and assimilates new assays and techniques related to virology and immunology.
• Meet with lab members to present updates weekly.

Requirements

• Master's degree in Microbiology or related field.
• Prior experience working in biosafety level 4 labs conducting virology and immunology assays.
• Familiarity with specimen storage and accountability.
• Skills in immunology assays.
• Skills in basic and molecular virology.
