Technical Learning Manager

105k – 131kNashville, TNTechnical WritingHybrid5+ YOE
Summary

Own strategy and execution of technical learning programs for Lyft's Engineering, Science, Product, and Design organizations. Design, scale, and manage continuing education, documentation, compliance, and AI upskilling initiatives for technical audiences.

About the role

Responsibilities

Program Ownership

  • Own the strategy and execution of Lyft's technical learning portfolio, including engineering continuing education programs, documentation improvement initiatives, and compliance training
  • Manage mid-cycle programs with active stakeholder relationships and scheduled commitments — ensuring continuity, quality, and follow-through
  • Provide editorial oversight for Lyft's internal technical content initiatives, including the Tech Blog — managing workflow, stakeholder relationships, and publication processes in partnership with engineering contributors
  • Assess the current program portfolio and make recommendations grounded in engineer needs and business priorities
  • Provide engaging learning experiences that empower technologists to do their best work at Lyft
  • Embed AI upskilling in all programs including LLM education, AI productivity programming, and connecting the dots across all AI training functions at Lyft
  • Partner with internal AI Champions and peer learning program owners to ensure technical learning initiatives are connected, complementary, and reaching the right audiences
  • Own and maintain tech learning sites, resources, and reference materials — ensuring content is current, discoverable, and reflects the latest programs and priorities

Program Design and Scaling

  • Design programs in ambiguous spaces — clarifying goals, defining success metrics, and building toward sustained program health
  • Leverage a champion model and internal subject matter experts to scale content delivery
  • Ensure programs are documented and structured for self-serve or handoff where appropriate
  • Build toward a scalable, structured continuing education program for engineers at Lyft, anchored in identified skill gaps

Cross-functional Integration

  • Partner with the technical onboarding program to ensure the onboarding experience is well-integrated with the broader technical learning ecosystem
  • Integrate technical manager training topics into People Development's Manager programming — ensuring engineering managers are well-served within the broader PDev portfolio
  • As the role grows, contribute to resourcing decisions and help shape the structure of the technical learning function at Lyft

Stakeholder Partnership

  • Build and maintain trusted relationships with engineering leaders, infrastructure TPMs, and tech-adjacent teams as the face of PDev to the technical community
  • Partner with HRBPs and People Analytics to understand the needs of the technical audience and measure program impact
  • Navigate cross-functional dependencies (legal, comms, compliance, LMS/platform) to keep programs running smoothly

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in learning & development, technical program management, or a closely related field — with demonstrated ownership of complex, cross-functional programs
  • Experience designing and delivering learning programs for technical audiences — comfortable reviewing code snippets, understanding Git workflows (e.g. opening PRs, working in GitHub), and building curriculum for hands-on technical content
  • Strong program management skills: able to manage multiple programs simultaneously, define milestones, identify risks, and adapt in ambiguous environments
  • Demonstrated ability to build trusted relationships with engineering leaders and cross-functional stakeholders
  • Experience with AI/ML learning content, technical enablement, or developer education
  • Familiarity with LMS platforms (e.g., Codecademy, Docebo, Udemy) and experience managing compliance or required training workflows
  • Excellent communication skills — able to synthesize complex tradeoffs and present recommendations to senior leaders clearly and confidently
  • Comfort operating in a fast-moving environment where programs may need to be built, inherited, or adapted

Benefits

  • Great medical, dental, and vision insurance options with additional programs available when enrolled
  • Mental health benefits
  • Family building benefits
  • Child care and pet benefits
  • 401(k) plan with company match
  • Discretionary paid time off (salaried team members); 15 days paid time off (hourly team members); 12 observed holidays
  • 18 weeks of paid parental leave (biological, adoptive, and foster parents eligible)
  • Subsidized commuter benefits
  • Monthly Lyft credits and complimentary Lyft Pink membership
