Security Engineer, Detection & Response

Security engineer responsible for detection engineering, investigations, incident response, identity and access management, and preventative security controls across corporate and production environments. Responsibilities

  • Maintain, improve, and own detection engineering systems, including detection-stack operations and automated security-response orchestration.
  • Perform investigations and contribute to security incident response across corporate and production environments.
  • Contribute to, maintain, and operate identity and access management systems.
  • Research, identify, and respond to emerging threats relevant to Sentry’s application, cloud, agentic product, and AI-assisted engineering environments.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally on preventative controls, defense in depth, alert quality, and adjacent security initiatives spanning application security, infrastructure security, governance, and privacy.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of industry experience in detection and response, corporate security, or generalist security engineering.
  • Degree in Computer Science or a related field, equivalent training, or professional experience.
  • Hands-on experience with several of the following: alert triage, detection tuning and writing, detection-as-code, security log ingestion, investigations, security incident response, identity and access management, phishing response, user access reviews, and endpoint detection and response tooling.
  • Programming experience in at least one language, preferably Python, and comfort with agentic development workflows.
  • Familiarity with distributed cloud technologies and corporate and defensive security tooling.
  • Strong written and verbal communication and a collaborative approach to problem solving.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with AWS, CI/CD, Google Cloud, Azure, Kubernetes, Docker, Terraform, SSO, SAML, IAM, EDR, SIEM, CNAPP, or ZTNA.

Compensation

  • Base salary range: $162,000–$420,000 CAD.
  • Eligible for incentive compensation, equity grants, paid time off, and group health insurance coverage.
