About the role

Responsibilities

  • Design the document processing pipeline for handling enterprise contract formats (PDFs, Word, email attachments).
  • Build extraction models to identify and classify contract clauses with high precision.
  • Develop a risk assessment framework comparing contracts to company playbooks and approved clause libraries.
  • Implement a review workflow integrating with legal tools (CLMs, matter management systems, email).
  • Work with legal design partners to validate accuracy.

Requirements

  • Strong full-stack or backend engineering skills with production systems for complex documents.
  • Experience with document processing, NLP, or information extraction from unstructured text.
  • Hands-on with LLMs for structured data extraction, classification, or reasoning.
  • Ability to build high-precision systems with critical false positive management.
  • Ability to work autonomously and make product/architecture decisions.

Nice-to-Haves

  • Experience in legal tech, compliance tech, or regulated industry software.
  • Familiarity with CLM tools or legal workflow systems.
  • Background in document AI, OCR, or PDF processing.
  • Founder or founding engineer experience for knowledge worker workflows.

Compensation

  • $10,000/month for 12 weeks ($30,000 total).
  • Contract role during residency; potential founder-level role with equity if successful.
