About the role

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain relationships with elected officials, agency leaders, local government representatives, and key stakeholders across Northeast states (New York, Pennsylvania, and others).
  • Serve as primary representative of OpenAI’s policy interests in the Northeast and shape regional strategies to advance policy goals.
  • Shape strategic initiatives and policy documents, prepare OpenAI leaders for government engagements, represent OpenAI in forums.
  • Collaborate with civil society and industry partners, advise internal teams on state/local opportunities, risks, and policy developments.
  • Execute strategic advocacy, regulatory engagement, stakeholder coordination, and policy development with focus on building relationships.

Requirements

  • Deep familiarity with state and local government policies and processes, particularly impacting AI, energy, infrastructure, and emerging technologies.
  • Strategic coalition builder and campaign manager who thrives on cross-functional collaboration and public-private partnerships.
  • Highly organized, accountable, capable of leading complex campaigns across multiple stakeholders.
  • Passionate about responsible AI adoption and its intersection with economic growth, energy systems, and infrastructure.

Nice-to-haves

  • Demonstrated knowledge of U.S. political system, especially state governments, and AI-related policy issues.
  • Experience advocating at state government level and managing consultants.
  • Strong experience in technology policy.
  • Track record working with cross-functional teams (engineering, research) and aligning diverse partners.
  • Sound judgment, outstanding integrity, ability to execute in fast environments.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, interpersonal skills for complex technical/policy concepts.
  • Strong strategic thinking, problem-solving, project management skills.
  • Genuine care about technology's societal impact; previous AI work and technical AI expertise a plus.

Note: Role requires frequent travel throughout Northeast region. Relocation assistance offered.
