Staff Data Engineer

Leads architecture and technical governance for an enterprise-scale data platform, driving distributed systems, data modeling, cloud infrastructure, and operational best practices. Requires 7+ years of engineering experience and a bachelor’s degree.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and evolution of a scalable, available, and performant modern data platform.
  • Apply architectural patterns including event-driven architecture, CQRS, event sourcing, and Saga patterns to complex data challenges.
  • Establish and communicate standards and processes for dbt, Airflow, Snowflake, Kafka, and traditional ETL.
  • Partner with senior leadership and IT leaders on strategic data initiatives, providing technical leadership and thought partnership.
  • Architect and manage enterprise-scale data platforms, including security, privacy, monitoring and alerting, and CI/CD best practices.
  • Implement advanced data modeling approaches such as Kimball, Inmon, and Data Vault, and advance modern concepts such as Data Mesh.
  • Solve complex business problems through data-enabled solutions.
  • Enforce best practices across the software development lifecycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control, and testing.
  • Mentor engineers and foster a culture of learning and technical excellence.
  • Use data to prioritize work and influence stakeholders, and proactively improve platforms and processes.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of relevant professional engineering experience building and operating large-scale distributed systems.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • Strong data engineering experience with dbt, Snowflake, Kafka, and cloud services including AWS S3, EMR, and Glue.
  • Hands-on experience with Terraform, Airflow, Tableau, MySQL, and Oracle.
  • Deep knowledge of professional software engineering practices across the technology management lifecycle.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Agile development.
  • Experience with event-driven architecture, CQRS, event sourcing, Saga patterns, and Data Mesh.

  • Salary: $134,000–$175,000 plus target bonus for Colorado-based candidates.
