Physical Security Design Engineer and Contract Document Specialist

Owns the basis of design and reusable contract-document templates for global physical security and low-voltage systems, coordinating consultants and construction delivery. Requires 6+ years of design engineering experience, a bachelor’s degree or equivalent, strong technical-authoring skills, and expertise in security systems, BIM, and automation.

About the job

Responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain, and continuously enhance the contract document basis of design (BOD), initiating BOD content from site and risk assessments and programming efforts at project kickoff.
  • Author and evolve design templates—including drawings, specifications, equipment schedules, riser diagrams, and ancillary documents—for access control, intrusion detection, video surveillance, intercommunications, radio, and network systems.
  • Develop regional variations that comply with international, regional, and local standards and codes.
  • Serve as the contract-document subject matter expert by reviewing design consultant deliverables across SD, DD, CD, and RIBA stage packages for accuracy, completeness, and alignment with the BOD.
  • Drive coordination across architectural, electrical, fire alarm, network, AV, and Real Estate / Workplace disciplines.
  • Support bidding, construction, and operational handover through specification clarifications, RFI responses, submittal reviews, shop-drawing back-checks, closeout documentation, and as-built consistency checks.
  • Partner with GSIS, Real Estate / Workplace, the Network Team, design consultants, and security integrators to capture operational needs, site constraints, and lessons learned and translate them into BOD and template revisions.
  • Maintain the GSIS design library under version control, including template drawing sets, master specifications, equipment schedules, standard details, change-management logs, exception logs, and tracking logs.
  • Provide status updates and improvement recommendations to the Physical Security DEC Manager.
  • Implement automations and AI-assisted workflows, BIM add-ins, web-based utilities, and data-processing tools to streamline design and documentation tasks.
  • Align quality-assurance tools and global standards across business units while documenting regional variances.

Requirements

  • Minimum 6+ years of design engineering experience with demonstrated ownership of contract document development for physical security and/or low-voltage systems.
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Core technical expertise in access control, intrusion detection, video surveillance, intercommunications, radio, and network systems.
  • Ability to author specifications, drawings, and equipment schedules from scratch.
  • Strong understanding of A/E deliverables and phases, including SD, DD, CD, RIBA Stages, CSI-format specifications, equipment schedules, and construction-administration submittal processes.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement internal tools, web applications, BIM add-ins, scripts, and automations.
  • Detail-oriented technical author with strong critical-thinking skills and the ability to create defensible documented standards from incomplete inputs.
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Comfortable working in active construction environments and traveling globally for site and coordination visits when required.

Nice-to-haves

  • CDT, PSP, CPP, or equivalent construction-project-delivery knowledge.
  • Familiarity with the Revit API, BIM workflows, version control, and modern AI-assisted development tools and practices.
  • Familiarity with Apple OS, Google Suite, Bluebeam, Revit, AutoCAD, Asana, Smartsheet, MS Project, Procore, PlanGrid, and Autodesk Construction Cloud.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Annual salary range: $180,000–$230,000 USD.
  • Hybrid policy: Staff are currently expected to work from an office at least 25% of the time; some roles may require more office time.
  • Visa sponsorship may be available, depending on the role and candidate.
