Staff Machine Learning Engineer, Listings and Host Tools Data and AI

Responsibilities

• Work with large scale structured and unstructured data to build and improve cutting edge Machine Learning models for Airbnb product, business, and operational use cases.
• Collaborate with cross-functional partners (software engineers, product managers, operations, data scientists) to identify opportunities, refine requirements, drive engineering decisions, and quantify impact.
• Prototype machine learning use cases for product integration and iterate with stakeholders.
• Develop, productionize, and operate Machine Learning models and pipelines at scale (batch and real-time).
• Design and build services and APIs to serve ML model-driven data to product use cases.

Requirements

• 8+ years of industry experience in applied Machine Learning, inclusive MS or PhD in relevant fields.
• Experience in Natural Language Processing and Computer Vision.
• Strong programming (Scala, Python, Java, C++) and data engineering skills.
• Deep understanding of ML best practices (training/serving skew minimization, A/B testing, feature engineering), algorithms (gradient boosted trees, neural networks/deep learning, NLP/CV algorithms), and domains (personalization, recommendation, anomaly detection).
• Experience with 3+ of: TensorFlow, PyTorch, Kubernetes, Spark, Airflow, data warehouse (Hive).
• Industry experience building end-to-end ML infrastructure, productionizing models, and integrating with product use cases.
• Exposure to architectural patterns for large-scale software applications (APIs, data pipelines, efficient algorithms/models).
• Experience with test-driven development, A/B testing, incremental delivery and deployment.
