Autonomy Integration Engineer

Integrates and deploys autonomy software across unmanned aircraft hardware, sensors, controls, and embedded systems, supporting flight readiness, live testing, troubleshooting, and data analysis. The role requires substantial systems-integration experience and proficiency in C++, Python, Linux, and real-time operating systems.

About the job

Responsibilities

  • Integrate autonomy software onto unmanned aircraft systems across onboard compute, sensors, and control interfaces.
  • Build, configure, and validate flight-ready systems, coordinating hardware and software compatibility and mission readiness.
  • Support live flight operations at test sites, including safety checks, system bring-up, and time-critical troubleshooting.
  • Diagnose and resolve integration issues across autonomy software stacks and embedded systems in laboratory and field environments.
  • Manage mission data collection and post-test analysis to refine autonomous behaviors and identify improvements.
  • Collaborate with autonomy, GNC, systems, and test teams to deliver and validate mission-critical functionality.
  • Build tools and processes to improve integration timelines, flight-test reliability, and team efficiency.
  • Assist with documentation and system-level validation for certification, airworthiness, and compliance in defense-relevant environments.
  • Travel approximately 30–40% of the year to office locations, customer sites, and flight-integration events.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Typically 7 years of related experience with a bachelor's degree, 5 years with a master's degree, or 4 years with a PhD, or equivalent work experience.
  • Proficiency in C++ and Python, with familiarity with real-time operating systems (RTOS).
  • Proficiency in Linux-based development, embedded systems, shell scripting, and system diagnostics.
  • Knowledge of sensor integration, sensor fusion, and middleware frameworks such as ROS and DDS.
  • Hands-on experience supporting flight demonstrations or live exercises.
  • Experience with simulation tools and environments for testing and validation.
  • Strong problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience supporting unmanned aerial systems or similar flight-test campaigns.
  • Familiarity with autonomy stacks, flight-control systems, or GNC pipelines.
  • Experience with sensor integration, electronics debugging, or avionics bring-up.
  • Experience developing automation tools for system testing, logging, and data parsing.
  • Ability to interface with DoD stakeholders during field events or technical reviews.
  • Experience with UCI and OMS standards.
