Software Engineer, Sending

Responsibilities

• Architect, build, and maintain robust APIs, services, and systems across engineering teams using Ruby and Java.
• Act as a domain expert in Stripe payments products, including payout methods and underlying rails used in the US and UK.
• Build and enhance software infrastructure across the complete development lifecycle, including coding, testing, deployment, debugging, and maintenance.
• Design software systems leveraging scientific analysis and mathematical models to predict and measure outcomes.
• Contribute to core interface design and write code across every layer of the stack, from new payout method APIs to UI changes in the Stripe Dashboard for Stripe Connect.
• Scope and lead technical projects, laying the groundwork for early-stage products to evolve and scale.
• Engineer payments integrations with banking partners to launch new markets, payout methods, and capabilities while ensuring reliability and scalability.
• Collaborate with engineers across the company to build large-scale features.
• Design and implement secure systems for sensitive data storage.
• Determine when existing infrastructure can be leveraged versus when a bespoke solution is necessary.
• Evaluate technology and architecture choices for payment products.
• Develop and execute short- and long-term roadmaps while balancing business priorities, user experience, and a sustainable technical foundation.
• Ensure technical decisions align with broader strategic goals and emerging business needs.
• Develop and direct software testing and validation procedures, programming, and documentation to ensure reliability.
• Participate in a 24/7 on-call rotation to manage and resolve production incidents.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science or a related field.
• 2 years of experience in software development.
• 2 years of experience building software solutions with Python, Ruby, Java, and TypeScript.
• 2 years of experience designing, building, and working with large user-facing APIs.
• 2 years of experience translating business needs into software requirements and designs.
• 2 years of experience debugging production issues across services and multiple levels of the stack.
• 2 years of experience designing, building, and maintaining scalable, highly available systems.
• 2 years of experience designing and implementing secure systems for sensitive data storage.

Compensation and Benefits

• Base salary: $156,800–$235,200 per year.
• Equity, company bonus or sales commissions/bonuses may be available in addition to base salary.
• Benefits may include a 401(k) plan, medical, dental, and vision coverage, and wellness stipends.
• 40 hours per week.
• 50% telecommuting permitted.
