Product & Privacy Counsel
Provides strategic product, privacy, and financial regulatory counsel for a fintech platform. Responsibilities
- Scale data privacy and security programs: Work with engineering and business teams to expand and enhance data security, access, and privacy programs, optimizing for Brex’s evolving data landscape.
- Implement global privacy compliance: Develop and implement processes for adherence to domestic and international privacy regulations, including GDPR and CCPA, and establish monitoring and testing frameworks with the Compliance team.
- Negotiate data-related contracts: Lead drafting and negotiation of external agreements involving data protection, data sharing, and data product legalities.
- Provide product and regulatory advice: Offer legal oversight and actionable regulatory and compliance advice for products from scoping and design through go-to-market entry and marketing, while mitigating risks.
- Represent Brex externally: Act as a key representative with financial partners and regulatory bodies, building relationships and addressing inquiries.
- Integrate innovation and compliance: Collaborate with compliance, engineering, and business teams to identify innovation opportunities within regulatory requirements and assess and mitigate risks.
- Manage outside counsel: Manage external legal counsel for regulatory, privacy, and data matters, overseeing strategies and ensuring cost-effective advice.
Requirements
- 4+ years of experience across a combination of law firm, technology, and fintech companies, including privacy-related and financial regulatory work.
- Deep understanding of CCPA, GDPR, and financial regulatory requirements.
- Exceptional judgment and integrity, with the ability to handle complex matters independently and take a product-minded approach to legal work.
- Entrepreneurial mindset and ability to communicate effectively across a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
- Ability to translate complex legal and regulatory concepts into clear, actionable guidance for non-legal stakeholders.
- Strong project management skills and ability to manage multiple time-sensitive initiatives.
- J.D. from an accredited law school, with a demonstrated record of excellence in privacy and financial regulatory law.
- Bar admission and active standing in at least one U.S. state.
Nice-to-haves
- Experience in fintech or adjacent innovative financial services sectors, including an understanding of emerging regulatory challenges.
- International privacy experience and expertise navigating cross-border regulatory complexities.
Compensation
- Expected salary range: $220,000–$270,000 USD.
- Starting base pay depends on location, skills, experience, market demands, and internal pay parity.
- Equity and other compensation may be provided depending on the position offered.
