Credit Card Counsel

About the role

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the embedded legal partner to engineering, product, and design teams building spend management software, including budgets, policies, approvals, audit, and controls.
  • Provide pragmatic, actionable advice on requirements and best practices for existing and new spend management software features.
  • Advise on the regulatory and commercial implications of product architecture, data flows, automation and AI features, integrations, and feature design.
  • Advise cross-functional partners on credit, lending, card network, software, data privacy, and product regulatory questions.
  • Advise on product and marketing collateral, customer communications, and disclosures.
  • Draft, update, and maintain customer agreements, terms, disclosures, and feature-level terms.
  • Support data handling, integration, and partner arrangements related to product launches.

Requirements

  • 4+ years of experience in a combination of law firms and technology or fintech companies.
  • Familiarity with federal, state, and international credit, lending, and card laws and regulations, including TILA/Regulation Z, ECOA/Regulation B, UDAP/UDAAP, card network rules, and required disclosures.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including memos, guides, presentations, customer agreements, terms, disclosures, and customer communications.
  • Ownership mentality and sound judgment on complex matters.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Law degree and admission to practice in at least one jurisdiction.
  • Willingness to support other products and topics as a team player.

Nice-to-haves

  • In-house counsel experience at a scaling fintech, payments, or software company.
  • Experience advising on AI and automation features.
  • Experience negotiating with or managing bank partner and card network relationships.
  • Experience interacting directly with regulatory agencies.

Compensation

  • Expected salary range: $220,000–$270,000 USD base salary.
  • Equity and other forms of compensation may be provided depending on the position offered.
