Staff Commissioning Manager, Mechanical

Leads mechanical commissioning across data center projects, managing testing, documentation, vendors, and turnover from factory testing through operational readiness. Responsibilities

  • Serve as the on-site mechanical subject matter expert and primary escalation point for commissioning issues across assigned data center projects.
  • Own the commissioning lifecycle from factory witness testing through integrated systems testing and formal turnover.
  • Review contractor submittals, shop drawings, O&M documentation, construction drawings, single-line diagrams, and test procedures.
  • Maintain alignment between Owner Project Requirements and commissioning scope, tracking changes and project-objective traceability.
  • Manage third-party commissioning agents, including scope development, performance, deliverables, factory testing, and startup validation.
  • Coordinate vendor factory testing and oversee Factory Witness Testing for off-site manufactured equipment.
  • Review and approve commissioning plans, L2–L5 test scripts, reports, and turnover packages.
  • Oversee first-of-kind inspections, installation validation, static and dynamic testing, and quality-control processes.
  • Drive issue identification, troubleshooting, remediation, risk management, and formal closure.
  • Coordinate construction, engineering, controls, and operations teams throughout project phases.
  • Support operational transition through technical guidance, training coordination, and post-handover support.
  • Enforce safety, compliance, and regulatory requirements.
  • Travel to project sites as required, approximately 75%.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of experience in data center commissioning, construction, or critical infrastructure delivery.
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field; equivalent commissioning experience may be considered.
  • Deep knowledge of commissioning levels L1 through L5 and associated documentation and testing requirements.
  • Hands-on experience with data center cooling infrastructure and BMS infrastructure.
  • Experience managing third-party commissioning agents and vendors against scope, schedule, and quality requirements.
  • Ability to interpret technical and construction documentation.
  • Strong cross-functional coordination, issue tracking, project reporting, and risk-management skills.
  • Understanding of safety and compliance requirements in active construction and commissioning environments.
