Backend Software Engineer

Responsibilities

• Design and build scalable backend systems and core data-processing pipelines that derive actionable insights from terabytes of audio data daily.
• Architect and maintain APIs and services powering features used by thousands of users.
• Build, deploy, and evaluate LLM- and DSP-based solutions to improve customers’ understanding of nuanced dataset features.
• Iterate on research hypotheses with researchers and Operations by deploying backend infrastructure that supports new data collection.
• Apply emerging technologies across backend engineering, data engineering, machine learning, and signal processing.

Requirements

• 2+ years of backend engineering experience.
• Strong backend fundamentals, including designing scalable systems, APIs, and high-volume data pipelines.
• Proven track record delivering engineering solutions that create customer value.
• Experience in a fast-paced environment requiring detail-oriented execution.
• Focus on robust, reliable infrastructure for polished, production-grade products.
• AI/ML or audio experience is not required, but enthusiasm for learning is expected.

Nice-to-haves

• Educational or professional experience with digital signal processing and a deep understanding of speech.
• Experience building and deploying machine learning models in production.
• Experience leading or technically leading engineering teams in high-growth environments.

Compensation and Benefits

• $165,000–$225,000 annual salary.
