Role Scope
Own automation systems across the factory: robot cells, conveyance, and the controls tying them into one line. Set the automation architecture, PLCs, safety systems, and integration standards, before the equipment is bought. Lead integrator selection and hold them to acceptance criteria you write. Commission cells to rate and keep them there: OEE owned at the system level.
Responsibilities
- Lead automation for manufacturing lines from concept through rate production.
- Specify and accept integrator-built cells; reject those that do not meet spec.
- Be hands-on with PLCs, HMIs, and industrial networks when needed.
- Design safety in from the start, including risk assessments, guarding, and functional safety.
- Debug issues at 2am during launches and fix root causes afterward.
Requirements
- Experience leading automation for a manufacturing line from concept through rate production.
- Experience specifying and accepting integrator-built cells.
- Hands-on experience with PLCs, HMIs, and industrial networks.
- Expertise in designing safety systems from the start (risk assessments, guarding, functional safety).
- Ability to debug and resolve issues under pressure during launches.
Nice-to-Haves
- Rockwell or Siemens platforms.
- Robot programming (Fanuc, ABB, KUKA).
- Weld or steel automation experience.
- Greenfield launch experience.
