About the job

Responsibilities

  • Drive system-level safety architecture and requirements for autonomy hardware and firmware, ensuring compliance with ISO 26262 and ISO 21448.
  • Decompose vehicle-level Safety Goals into Functional Safety Concepts (FSCs) and Technical Safety Concepts (TSCs), defining safety mechanisms, fault detection and reaction strategies, and safe states.
  • Develop system-level SOTIF specifications, including performance targets and acceptance criteria for autonomy sensors and compute systems.
  • Lead and review safety analyses, including Hazard Analysis and Risk Assessment (HARA), Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA), Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), and Dependent Failure Analysis (DFA).
  • Collaborate with controls, embedded software, hardware teams, and external partners on requirements and test plans.
  • Support verification and validation by reviewing tests and implementing test cases in SIL/HIL environments.
  • Analyze simulation, SIL/HIL, and on-road test data to validate safety mechanisms and identify residual risks.
  • Maintain platform-system sections of the Safety Case using Goal Structuring Notation (GSN), with emphasis on residual-risk assessment and clear argumentation.

Requirements

  • Hands-on systems engineering and automotive functional safety experience, including requirements generation.
  • 3+ years of experience in system architecture for safety-critical systems.
  • 3+ years of experience with fault-management or diagnostic systems for automotive applications.
  • Ability to read C code and write Python or MATLAB code.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Autonomous vehicle or advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) experience.
  • Familiarity with STPA and ISO 21448.
  • Experience developing and articulating a Safety Case based on UL 4600.
  • Experience with HIL testing or on-road testing.

Compensation

  • Base pay range: $132,300–$291,150.
  • Eligible for an annual performance bonus, equity, and benefits.
