Staff Software Engineer - Backend

Responsibilities

• Evolve core data models and APIs from point-to-point architecture toward a resilient, event-driven system.
• Build reliable, scalable, cloud-native backend systems for ingesting and processing real-time data from hardware devices.
• Define best practices for integrations and end-to-end testing.
• Develop and maintain integrations with third-party systems, including Electronic Health Records (EHRs).
• Build clean, well-documented APIs for reliable communication with external platforms.
• Mentor engineers in distributed systems, AWS best practices, and secure development.
• Collaborate with product, data science, and engineering teams to solve business challenges.

Requirements

• 8+ years of backend or full-stack development experience.
• Strong background building scalable, cloud-native applications.
• Deep AWS expertise, including Lambda, Fargate, SQS, SNS, Kinesis, DynamoDB, and RDS.
• Proficiency in TypeScript and Node.js.
• Experience with relational databases such as PostgreSQL and NoSQL databases such as DynamoDB.
• Strong understanding of data modeling and scalable, performant APIs.
• Active use of AI coding tools such as Cursor and Claude Code, including task automation, long-running processes, and complex integrations.
• Ability to break down complex, ambiguous problems into actionable steps.
• Strong collaboration, verbal communication, and written communication skills.
• Comfort working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
