Responsibilities
Manage and drive strategy for employment-related disputes (including wage & hour, discrimination, and retaliation matters) and improving outcomes through effective case assessment and resolution strategy, and identifying trends and root causes to inform proactive risk mitigation and operational improvements
Provide advice on non-employment claims, including service-related incidents, professional liability matters, and other operational risks
Draft and respond to attorney demand letters and other pre-litigation correspondence, partnering with internal stakeholders to develop strategy and position the company effectively
Partner cross-functionally with People, Operations, and leadership teams to provide practical, risk-balanced legal advice that enables compliant decision-making across the Care network
Identify systemic legal risks and develop scalable solutions, using data, technology, and trend analysis to reduce exposure and improve legal and operational practices at scale
Help manage outside counsel and litigation spend, ensuring high-quality representation while driving efficiency and accountability
Represent the company in administrative proceedings including EEOC, CRD/DFEH, and similar agencies, as necessary, delivering strong, consistent advocacy aligned with company strategy
Help the CPL team build and enhance legal processes, playbooks, and training materials, leveraging technology to increase consistency, speed, and clarity in how legal guidance is delivered across the organization
Support internal investigations and sensitive employee matters, providing sound judgment and clear guidance in high-stakes or ambiguous situations
Requirements
J.D. and active bar membership, with 4–6 years of relevant legal experience
Strong employment law and litigation experience, including handling disputes and administrative claims (e.g., EEOC or state agencies)
Deep knowledge of California wage & hour law and familiarity with multi-state employment compliance
Experience drafting employment documents, or contributing to motions, pleadings, and litigation strategy
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex legal concepts into practical business guidance
Intellectual curiosity; digs into issues, asks thoughtful questions, and challenges assumptions rather than taking things at face value
Practical, solutions-oriented mindset; partners with the business in a helpful, pragmatic way rather than taking a purely risk-averse approach
Preferred
In-house experience or advising high-growth, multi-state employers
Experience with related areas such as workers’ compensation, insurance claims, professional liability, or commercial disputes

Compensation
Annual base salary range: $171,900 - $191,000
