Responsibilities
- Set the long-term technical vision and architecture for backend systems supporting experimentation, personalization, analytics, and conversion optimization.
- Architect and evolve high-throughput distributed systems and APIs for large-scale visitor and event data.
- Lead foundational platform and data-infrastructure investments.
- Partner with data scientists, ML engineers, and product engineers to productionize statistical and AI/ML capabilities.
- Lead complex, multi-team technical initiatives from strategy through implementation, launch, and operational ownership.
- Influence engineering roadmaps and technical strategy across multiple pillars.
- Establish architecture reviews, technical standards, observability, and operational-excellence practices.
- Mentor staff and senior engineers.
- Translate product vision into technical problems and execution plans.
Requirements
- BS/BA degree or relevant experience.
- 12+ years of software engineering experience, including backend and distributed systems at significant scale.
- Strong foundation in programming languages such as Python, Java, or Go.
- Experience designing, building, and operating high-throughput, data-intensive distributed systems in production.
- Deep understanding of scalability, fault tolerance, consistency tradeoffs, observability, and performance optimization.
- Technical leadership across ambiguous, cross-pillar initiatives.
- Ability to partner with product, design, data science, and ML stakeholders.
- Strong judgment and clear communication with technical and executive audiences.
- Proactive adoption and application of emerging AI technologies.
Compensation
- United States Zone A: $232,000–$290,000 USD
- United States Zone B: $217,600–$272,000 USD
- United States Zone C: $204,800–$256,000 USD
- Canada (ON and BC): $253,000–$316,000 CAD
