Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain the core backend platform for calculating and processing sustainability impact assessments across global customer value chains.
• Architect and implement robust, scalable data models and systems ensuring consistency, integrity, and clear semantics for complex value chain and climate-related data.
• Develop and operate high-performance backend systems and data pipelines to ingest, transform, and harmonize external and customer datasets into reliable data assets.
• Focus on data accuracy, diving deep to validate changes and protect customers from unintended data alterations.
• Collaborate with climate scientists and data scientists to translate complex methodologies into validated, performant platform capabilities.
• Implement comprehensive validation, quality checks, and monitoring for high reliability of customer-facing sustainability data.
• Build abstractions, tooling, and infrastructure empowering data scientists, analysts, and engineers to integrate new calculation methods and data processing logic.
• Partner with product, scientists, and engineering leaders to define roadmap and build platforms for critical sustainability data and methods.

Requirements

• 6+ years of industry experience in backend software engineering focused on scalable systems for data storage, processing, and retrieval.
• Fluent in Python and SQL, experience with data pipelining and transformation frameworks (TypeScript a plus).
• Experience designing backend systems that ingest, validate, and structure data from diverse, messy, or inconsistent sources.
• Strong engineering craft: well-tested, maintainable code and robust, scalable architectures and abstractions.
• Comfortable building backend platforms and tooling for other engineers, scientists, and analysts.
• Ability to communicate complex technical topics to technical and non-technical collaborators.
• Thrive in systematic, detail-oriented environments ensuring data integrity and reliability while moving quickly.
