Senior Software Engineer, Blockchain Platform Nodes
Senior software engineer responsible for optimizing and operating Coinbase’s blockchain node platform at scale. The role focuses on systems performance, infrastructure cost reduction, observability, reliability SLOs, and protocol upgrades, with Go and blockchain infrastructure experience preferred.

Responsibilities
- Own deep performance analysis and optimization across the blockchain node stack, diagnosing resource consumption and implementing system-level fixes that reduce infrastructure spend while maintaining reliability SLOs.
- Build observability, health-check, and automated failover capabilities for blockchain nodes.
- Drive right-sizing across the node fleet by profiling workloads, identifying over-provisioned instances, and establishing capacity models.
- Partner with protocol integration, wallet, and indexer teams to extend performance improvements across the blockchain platform stack.
- Define and implement SLOs and SLIs for node services.
- Support protocol upgrades and node operations with a performance-first approach, including resource-efficiency validation and regression testing.
Requirements
- 5+ years of software engineering experience with expertise in systems-level performance analysis, profiling, and production infrastructure optimization.
- Experience operating distributed systems at scale, diagnosing resource bottlenecks, tuning service performance, and managing capacity across heterogeneous workloads.
- Proficiency in backend programming, preferably Go.
- Experience with profiling, tracing, and observability tooling such as pprof, Datadog, Prometheus, and Grafana.
- Demonstrated infrastructure cost reduction through engineering optimization.
- Blockchain node, consensus protocol, or crypto infrastructure experience strongly preferred.
- Familiarity with protocol behavior under load and during upgrades.
- Responsible use of generative AI with human oversight.
Compensation & Benefits
- Annual base salary: $186,065–$218,900 USD.
- Total compensation may include equity and bonus eligibility.
