PhD Autonomy Engineer Intern - Computer Vision / Deep Learning
Research and develop computer vision and deep learning algorithms for autonomous drones, taking ownership of projects that advance Skydio’s autonomy capabilities. Requires PhD-level study or background, strong C++/Python and PyTorch skills, and foundational expertise in software, mathematics, and relevant autonomy fields.

Responsibilities
- Architect and implement computer vision and deep learning algorithms for autonomous drone systems.
- Research, prototype, and assess the feasibility of new approaches.
- Design and implement features that improve autonomous capabilities and user experiences.
- Characterize and quantify the performance of core software and hardware components.
- Take direct ownership of a project that advances the team’s capabilities and products.
Requirements
- PhD-level academic background or current PhD studies relevant to autonomy, computer vision, deep learning, or a related field.
- High proficiency in C++ and/or Python, and PyTorch.
- Strong foundation in mathematics, theory, and software development.
- Demonstrated interest in one or more of computer vision, deep learning, motion planning, dynamics and controls, 3D graphics, distributed systems, or tools and infrastructure.
- Strong software engineering fundamentals and commitment to clean, well-architected code.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, collaborative small-team environment.
