Manager, Mechanical Engineering
Leads a mechanical engineering team delivering production-ready models and drawings for modular buildings and power distribution equipment. The role combines people management, advanced SolidWorks design, deliverable review, engineering change management, regulatory compliance, and manufacturing handoff.

Responsibilities
- Directly manage a team of mechanical design engineers through 1-on-1s, performance reviews, growth conversations, technical guidance, mentorship, and professional development.
- Own the mechanical engineering work queue and assign projects based on expertise, availability, and production priorities.
- Surface schedule risks proactively.
- Execute advanced individual-contributor mechanical design work, including complex 3D modeling.
- Review mechanical deliverables such as specification sheets, bills of materials (BOMs), structural and thermal analyses, and detailed assembly instructions.
- Lead and manage Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) for product release and lifecycle management.
- Ensure designs comply with regulatory requirements, commercial codes, and engineering standards, including UL, IEC, IBC, and ISO.
- Maintain PDM, PLM, and ERP data integrity.
- Partner with Manufacturing Engineering and the shop floor to resolve design questions.
- Lead Design for Manufacturability and Assembly (DFMA/DFx) reviews and cost-reduction strategies.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- 7+ years of hands-on mechanical design experience.
- 1–2 years of experience in a supervisory or management role leading engineering teams.
- Expert proficiency with SolidWorks and SolidWorks PDM.
- Deep knowledge of metals, fabrication materials, and manufacturing methods.
- Proven ability to solve complex engineering problems using first-principles design and analysis.
- Proficiency with building codes, energy codes, and UL listings applicable to engineered infrastructure.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to lift or move up to 50 lbs and meet physical operational demands on site.
- Ability to participate in a required drug and alcohol program for a safety-sensitive position and facility.
Nice-to-haves
- Professional Engineer (PE) license.
- Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related postgraduate discipline.
- Experience as a SolidWorks PDM Vault Administrator.
- Experience with advanced simulation and analysis software, such as FEA or FDM.
- Lean or continuous improvement experience applied to engineering design workflows.
