Responsibilities
- Develop and enhance Zoox’s firmware and LTE/5G cellular connectivity stack across multiple hardware generations.
- Integrate proprietary cellular modem firmware and software stacks from chipset vendors such as Qualcomm into a custom embedded Linux platform.
- Define and validate interfaces between RF/baseband systems, vendor protocol stacks, and host systems; write host-side C/C++ integration code for the Linux networking stack.
- Prototype and evaluate next-generation wireless platforms.
- Develop telemetry and analytics systems for collecting, analyzing, and visualizing fleet connectivity data.
- Investigate and root-cause issues reported by QA and customers, distinguishing host-side defects from vendor firmware issues.
- Support test automation and collaborate with QA, manufacturing, and software teams to improve quality and engineering practices.
Requirements
- More than 10 years of experience with embedded Linux systems and cellular or wireless stack software/firmware development.
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent experience.
- Strong programming skills in C/C++, Linux, and Python or shell scripting.
- Deep understanding of LTE/5G protocol stacks, including NAS, PDCP, RRC, RLC, MAC, and PHY, as well as 3GPP specifications.
- Experience integrating third-party cellular modems and proprietary stacks, including Qualcomm ecosystems and cellular network analysis tools such as QXDM, Shannon Tools, and Wireshark.
- Understanding of embedded systems, operating-system concepts, computer architecture, data structures, and algorithms.
- Experience maintaining Linux applications, kernel code, and embedded services, including porting and patching open-source packages in Yocto Project environments.
- Strong networking knowledge, including Ethernet, TCP/IP, IP routing, VLANs, firewalls, IPv4, and IPv6.
Nice-to-haves
- Automotive industry experience.
- Familiarity with Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and BLE.
- Experience with embedded interfaces such as UART, I2C, I2S, SPI, CAN, and PCIe.
- Experience collaborating with test teams using network emulation tools such as Keysight UXM.
- Experience designing, developing, and securing wireless software systems using robust network and wireless security protocols.
- Ability to communicate complex technical issues clearly with internal teams and external vendors.
