Senior Software Engineer building and securing the core authentication, sign-in, registration, MFA, and account management flows for ID.me's digital identity wallet used by over 140 million users. Requires 5+ years full-stack web engineering with 3+ years Java/Spring Boot and experience with identity standards.
About the job
Key Responsibilities
- Design, build, maintain, and improve the ID.me Wallet authentication experience including sign-in, registration, MFA, account recovery, password reset, and MyWallet. Independently drive medium-to-large features end-to-end from design through deployment.
- Own and evolve real-time risk and abuse detection across authentication flows, detecting and mitigating credential attacks, account takeover, and abuse.
- Apply security best practices in every feature, and improve authentication reliability, observability, and incident response.
- Write high-quality, maintainable code with strong test coverage. Contribute to codebase health by addressing technical debt.
- Integrate with MFA providers, email/SMS delivery services, internal identity services, and downstream relying parties.
- Partner with Product, Design, Security, Identity, and adjacent engineering teams. Participate in planning, retrospectives, and roadmap discussions.
- Provide technical guidance to junior engineers through code reviews, design discussions, and pairing. Help establish team standards.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent practical experience).
- 5+ years of professional software development experience with strong emphasis on full-stack web engineering.
- 1+ years of experience with AI-assisted development tooling (e.g., Claude Code, Cursor) with daily use.
- 3+ years of experience in Java and Spring Boot building and operating production web services.
Preferred Qualifications
- Strong communication and collaboration skills across Product, Design, and Engineering.
- Ability to independently own and ship complex features end-to-end.
- Experience with authentication and identity standards such as OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect (OIDC), SAML, or FIDO2/WebAuthn.
- Experience with Identity Provider (IdP) or Identity and Access Management (IAM) systems.
- Familiarity with security best practices for credential handling, password storage, session management, token issuance, and rate limiting.
- Experience building fraud detection, real-time risk engines, or abuse mitigation systems.
- Experience with React or other modern frontend frameworks.
- Comfort in fast-moving environment with iterative releases and A/B testing.
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, automated testing frameworks, and performance profiling tools.
- Startup or high-growth company experience.
