Staff Mobile Engineer – Platform
Builds and maintains shared React Native frameworks and tooling for Betterment's mobile platform. Leads platform initiatives, improves developer experience, and mentors engineers with expertise in JS/TS and mobile infrastructure.
A day in the life
- Build and maintain shared React Native frameworks, libraries, and developer tooling for mobile product teams
- Partner with engineers to improve reliability, performance, and security of mobile apps
- Lead medium-to-large scale platform initiatives with continuous, iterative delivery
- Collaborate with Product, Design, and engineers to align platform with business needs
- Mentor engineers and contribute to an engineering culture of clean code, testing, and improvement
- Identify and address strategic technical challenges across mobile engineering
What we’re looking for
- Strong expertise in JavaScript/TypeScript and React Native; familiarity with iOS/Android platforms (Flutter nice-to-have)
- Experience designing/maintaining shared libraries, frameworks, or infrastructure for mobile apps
- Familiarity with GraphQL and mobile networking best practices
- Strong understanding of software architecture, scalability, and performance in mobile apps
- Experience leading large platform migrations and driving adoption
- Commitment to code quality, test coverage, accessibility, performance, and mentorship
New York City: $200,000 – $228,000 (base salary range; total compensation includes equity, benefits, 401(k) match, flexible PTO, potential bonus)
